GMS Swim Team Competed Vs Moline, Rock Island

Last Monday the swim team competed in Moline against Rock island and Moline middle schools.

Every swimmer on the team tried different races that they haven’t competed in yet. In true Geneseo fashion they cheered and supported each other on in every race that we swam. We won many races and dropped time in every single race that our team swam.

Our last tri meet of the season will be in Morrison on Tuesday against Morrison and Rock island middle schools.

Geneseo Middle School Has A Swim Team!

Geneseo Middle School has a swim team! This is our first year and we are excited to proceed in this fun, fast season that is middle school swimming.

Our first meet was in Morrison this past Wednesday (2/26) where we got to compete against Morrison Jr High School. Our 11 swimmers competed in relays, 25’s and 50’s in a variety of strokes. Some of them this was their very first meet and they had a blast. It was heartwarming watching our more experienced swimmers show our novice swimmers how to get ready behind the blocks.

GHS Girls Swim Club Competed At WB6 Championship

The girls traveled to Galesburg High School the past Saturday for Girls Swimming WB6.

Jordan Thomas represented our team in the JV division. She placed 4th in the 50 free and 5th in the 100 breaststroke dropping over 5 seconds!

Jordan Cechowicz swam the 100 fly and earned a 6th place finish and dropped over 2 seconds. In the 100 breaststroke she finished with an 8th place finish.

Nyna Schweitzer swam the 50 free and placed 9th. In the 100 breaststroke she placed 10th.

Off to Sectionals in Peoria on Nov 9th.

Senior Swimmer Jordan Thomas Recognized

We swam in Morrison last night and the Coach so kindly let us recognize our Senior with their Senior for Senior night!

Jordan Thomas started swimming last year!! She has made amazing strides in the pool. She can now swim all 4 strokes legally, can do all the turns required for every stroke and never shy’s away from asking for help with her stroke! She makes us laugh and has the best car snacks! I’m so happy she took the chance last year to give swimming a try!!

GHS Girls Swim Club Compete At Panther Sprint Invite

The girls swam in the 12th Annual Panther Sprint Invite this Sat hosted by UT High School. All the events distances for this meet were cut in half. UT, Sterling, Morrison, Rock Island and Geneseo were in attendance for this invite.

Swim Club Competes In Galesburg Meet, Off To LP Next Wednesday

The Geneseo Girls Swim Club traveled down to Galesburg High School to swim in a tri meet. Galesburg, Geneseo and Rick Island were in attendance.

Our team love the chance to swim in the pool where our WB6 Championships will be held on Oct 26th. The best part the girls loved was the warm up music could be heard above the water and under the water!

Our 200 Medley Relay placed 3rd and the 200 Free Relay came in 4th.

Jordan Thomas swam the 50 Free and placed 9th with a 42.04. In the 100 Free she placed 6th with a 1:35.06.
Jordan Cechowicz swam the 50 Free placing 2nd with a 30.26. She also swam a 500 Free (20 laps!!!) in a 6:56.05 earning a 4th place finish.
Nyna Schweitzer swam the 100 Free in a 1:09.63 placing 5th in that event. She also swam the 100 Breast 1:40.65 placing 5th.
Ida Rowold swam the 200 Free finishing 4th with a time of 2:33.16. She came back for the 100 Back with a 1st place finish in a time of 1:10.88.
We are enjoying a week of training, swimming in our clothes, and will be ready for our next meet in LaSalle/Peru on Wednesday.

Another Great Meet In The Books!

Our club, with three of our four swimmers, headed to Sterling for the Sterling Invite this Saturday. They competed against 7 other teams.

Each swimmer got to compete in 2 events, per IHSA rules, and they each improved their times in one or both events that they competed in.

Jordan Cechowicz placed 12th in the 50 Free with a 29.93. She also swam the 100 Breast in a 1:26.17 earning her a 6th place finish.

Nyna Schweitzer swam the 50 Free in a 31.99 dropping 2 seconds. She also completed in the 100 free and swam a 1:11.16 earning 13th place.

Ida Rowold started her day of racing with a 50 Free, in a 27.79, winning her heat and placing 5th over all. In the 100 Back she stayed strong and finished 4th with a 1:11.71.

We are off to Galesburg on Tuesday to compete in a tri meet between  Rock Island, Geneseo and Galesburg.

Geneseo High School Girls Swim Club, First Meet With UT & Davenport West

The Geneseo High School Girls Swim Club had their first meet Wednesday night! They were invited to swim in a dual between UT and Davenport West.

Each girl got to compete in 2 relays and 2 individual events.

A relay comprising of Jordan Thomas (Sr), Jordan Cechowicz (Jr), Nyna Schweitzer (So) and Ida Rowold (Fr) competed in the 200 Medley and 200 Free. The 200 Medley came down to a photo finish where everyone had to look at the score board to see who won. They came in 3rd with just one hundredth of a second determining the placing!

Jordan Thomas in only her second year of swimming dropped 3 seconds in the 50 free earning a personal best!

Nyna Schweitzer dropped 4 seconds in her 100 Free earning her a personal best as well.

Jordan Cechowicz placed 1st in her 100 Fly and 2nd in her 100 Breast.

Ida Rowold earned 1st in both her 100 Free and 100 Breast.

Huge shout out to UT and Davenport West for allowing us to jump into a meet they already had on the schedule. Their reasoning from both coaches, “It’s all about the girls! Anytime!”

They are off to the Sterling Invite Sept 9th.

Geneseo Park District Gators Defeat Rochelle in Swim Meet

The Geneseo Park District Gators Swim Team defeated the Rochelle Rays in a recent home swim meet held at the John & Carla Edwards Aquatic Center. After scoring all races with a 5, 3, 1-point scoring for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, the Gators win the meet.

Coach Gina Schweitzer commented, “The kids all swam great and fast. I loved seeing them cheer each other on. A big thanks to our timers and starter who kept the meet flowing along! It was a great meet!”

The Gators Swim Team is open to swimmers who are six years of age and older.

On Thursday October 2, GHS traveled to LaSalle-Peru to take on a very solid and much larger Cavalier squad. While LP picked up the 91-9 victory, the Geneseo squad continues to improve!

For the first time, Jordan Cechowicz and Nyna Schweitzer both competed in the longest even in high school swimming, the 20 lap 500 Free. Cechowicz swam a 7:22.54 and Schweitzer a 7:29.97.

Jill Corso and Trinity Schweitzer both swam the 200 IM, 2 laps of each stroke, for their 1st time. Corso swam a 3:10.34 and Schweitzer a 3:14.16.

Kirsten Zimmerman and Jordan Thomas both completed in a 50 free and had their fastest time to date with Zimmerman swimming a 32.14 and Thomas a 45.42.

The girls also competed in Morrison on Monday October 16th and will next compete at the WB6 Championships meet in East Moline on Saturday October 21st.
