Donna Marie Bredt (Stottler) of Geneseo passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the age of 77, with her husband and children by her side.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Homewood Evangelical Free Church, 3303 60th Street, Moline, IL, 61265.  A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the funeral service (from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.).  Reverend Mark Frazee will officiate.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, Moline.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  Memorials may be directed to Homewood Evangelical Church or Child Arise (https://child-arise.com).

 

Donna was born in Hagaman IL on March 6, 1946, to Floyd and Grace Stottler.  She graduated from Geneseo High School, class of 1964.  She met the love of her life, Timothy Bredt while singing in a traveling chorale group attending Youth for Christ rallies in the Quad Cities. Tim and Donna married on January 2, 1965, at Mound View Evangelical Free Church in Moline and just celebrated their 59-year anniversary. Donna and her husband joined Homewood Evangelical Free Church in 1995 and are current active members.  Donna worked at JC Penney in the fabric department, and at Sears in the Accounting department early in her career and was a bookkeeper for 10 years at Curnyn Construction Company in Geneseo. Donna was also a stay-at-home mom with her three children, Denise Angela and Nathan.

 

Donna loved the Lord and used her gifts to work in her church. She was a Junior High Sunday school teacher with her husband, Tim. She loved working in the nursery with all the little babies. She was the leader of her Ladies Bible Study for 8 years. She also was part of the Kitchen Care Group and White Cross at her church Her favorite ministry was singing in the church choir. She sang in a church choir throughout her life and enjoyed singing hymns and southern gospel songs. She especially liked to sing songs by her favorite band, the Gaither Band. 

Donna loved to quilt and made quilts for anyone she could, including her children, grandchildren, and great niece’s babies. Donna recently received awards for her quilting ability from the Geneseo Quilt Guild. She received the following awards in September of 2023: 1st place for The Gardeners Alphabet and 2nd place for Sophie’s Garden. 

Her favorite past times include gardening, tending her flower beds and traveling with her husband. She loved spending the Winters at the beach, driving out east in the Fall to see the colors, being in the mountains of Montana, where she also has extended family living. She loved her grandkids greatly and would travel anywhere she could to see them play little league sports, sing in Show Choir or perform in theater. She enjoyed having the grandkids come to her home where she would teach her grandkids to sew, cross stitch, bake cookies and other life skills. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Timothy Lyle Bredt of Geneseo; children, Denise Ann Stanaway (Chris) of Wheaton IL, Angela Lynn Mikesell (Steven) of Nashville TN and Nathan Lyle Bredt of Geneseo IL; grandkids Jack Stanaway (Tampa, FL), Matthew Stanaway (Wheaton, IL), Aaron Stanaway (Chicago, IL) and Katherine Stanaway (Wheaton, IL); siblings Bob Stottler (Shelbyville, TN) Mary Stage (Geneseo, IL), Linda Lipke (Galva IL) Diane Frields (Cambridge IL) and Butch Stottler (Victoria, IL); and many nieces nephews and great nieces and great nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Floyd and Grace Stottler; her sister, Betsy Sherbeyn; father-in-law Faurest Bredt; and mother-in-law, Oral Bredt.
