For the vast majority of high school seniors, the end of a sports season is the means to end.   Only the elite few continue their athletic career at the next level.  The next chapter begins when those select few high school seniors sign on the ‘dotted line,’ committing their of academic and athletic lives to the college or university they believe is best suited.

“This is a culmination of their hard work and dedication up to this point.”  says GHS Athletic Director Joe Nichols.  “This provides opportunities for them and their future.  Whether it be inter-collegiate athletics or exposing them to the characteristics and the traits that they need to be successful in life.” said Nichols.

I spoke to Tayt Hager about his plans after graduation.  “I’ll be going to Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.  I want to major in business or accounting and I’ll be playing golf.”  I asked Tayt what made him choose Carthage College, “I really like the coach, he’s a great guy.  The feel of the campus, it’s very pretty up there, and I feel like it’s the right spot for me.”

I also had the opportunity to speak to another GHS athlete, whom, prior to basketball season, wasn’t sure where her next stop would be.

“When I first went on a visit to Monmouth College, it was home to me.  said senior Allison Griffin.  “I love the coaches and the players are amazing.  I went to visit another college but it wasn’t the same.  The Monmouth soccer players reached out to me, made me feel welcome, and I knew Monmouth was right.  I’ll be playing soccer and I’m going to major in early childhood education and business.”

In all there were 10 high school athletes that made their decision public on February 22nd.
