In early April, the Geneseo High School baseball program will have the opportunity of a lifetime.  On April 2nd, all three levels of the baseball program will travel to Busch Stadium in St. Louis.  There, they will be spectators as the Cardinals welcome the Toronto Blue Jays.  After the pro’s wrap their nine innings, is when the Maple Leafs get their opportunity.

The varsity squares off against Mattoon following the conclusion of the MLB game.  Anyone who has tickets for the Cardinals/Blue Jays game, can stay and watch the high school game also.

GHS athletic director, Joe Nichols says “This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for these athletes.  The kids will walk in the footsteps and sit in the dugouts where Pujols, Molina, and Jim Edmonds have been.  They’ll have their name announced over the PA system by the same professional announcer that does the Cardinals games and there will be replays on the large jumbotron.”   Nichols continued, “Imagine walking out to the field or standing on the pitcher’s mound and looking at the seats and smelling the hotdogs.  It's something these young men have dreamed about since they were kids.”

If you would like to purchase tickets, GHS baseball is selling said tickets to the game.  The Maple Leafs need to move 800 tickets total.  “We do have expenses associated with this trip. Selling tickets helps us offset some of that cost” said Nichols. Tickets can be purchased through the GHS athletic office(309-945-0300) or through any Geneseo High School baseball player. Tickets are $20.  It is requested that if you don’t know a baseball player personally, that you contact the athletic office. Considering the cost of a ticket through MLB, purchasing tickets through GHS or GHS players provides a great opportunity. Also, buying elsewhere won’t aid the cause.
