A locally owned, independent community media organization covering what matters to Geneseo, Illinois — across our website, social channels, newsletters, video, and quarterly magazine.

Who we are

The Geneseo Current was founded in 2020 on a simple observation: a generation was missing the recognition and excitement of seeing themselves in the local paper. That sounds simple, but it runs so much deeper.

We are not a newspaper. We are a multi-platform community media organization — the most print we do is a quarterly magazine. Day to day, we publish original local reporting where our neighbors already are: on the web, on social media, in email inboxes, and on video.

What we cover: city government and the city council, the school board, Henry County government, local businesses, high school sports, community events, and the people who make Geneseo what it is.

Our vision

A Geneseo where no one ever has to wonder what's happening in their own town — where every resident sees themselves in the local story, local businesses thrive in the community spotlight, and independent local news is built to last for generations.

Ownership & independence

The Geneseo Current is owned and operated by Geneseo Media Group, a locally owned company based in Geneseo, Illinois. We answer to our community — not to a corporate chain, not to a hedge fund, and not to any political party.

Our editorial decisions are independent of our advertising. An ad buys space — that's it. It doesn't buy our opinion or softer coverage. We offer the same advertising packages, pricing, and positioning to everyone, regardless of party or point of view.
