The Geneseo Men's Church League has wrapped up another season of softball, with Grace United Methodist taking first place in the league's end-of-season tournament at Richmond Hill Park.
St. Malachy finished second, while Geneseo Evangelical Free Church (GEFC) took third.
This year's tournament also marked the beginning of a new tradition for the longtime league.
Following the tournament, Cindy Pippin presented the league's first traveling trophy to Grace United Methodist in honor of her late husband, Kenny Pippin, who helped start the Geneseo Church League in the 1970s.
The traveling trophy will recognize the league's tournament champion each season while honoring Pippin's role in helping establish a tradition that has continued in Geneseo for more than five decades.
This season, the league included nine teams, with most representing Geneseo churches. Churches from Erie and Hampton also participated.
The season concluded with the annual double-elimination tournament at Richmond Hill Park.
While there is plenty of competition on the field, the league also provides an opportunity for fellowship among participating churches and the community.
Organizers are already looking ahead to next season and hope to welcome additional churches to the league. Any church interested in participating is encouraged to get involved.
For the players, next year will bring another opportunity to return to the field, enjoy the competition and fellowship, and continue a Geneseo Church League tradition that dates back to the 1970s.
