From the City of Geneseo:
Due to forecasted dry conditions and to protect the City's water infrastructure, Mayor Johnson has proclaimed a Tier 1 Water Response, effective June 19, 2024. This move follows the unanimous passage of the Water Emergency Response Ordinance by the City Council on June 27, 2023.
The City Council has authorized the construction of a 5th water well for Geneseo, a project that is currently underway, estimated to be completed in November of this year. The process of completing a 5th well has been longer than anticipated, with challenges in identification of a productive water well site, EPA permitting, and land acquisition for the final selected site. Engineering for a 6th deep well is also in the City’s capital improvement plan.
Mayor Johnson points out that the most notable part of moving to Tier #1 from the City’s standard water conservation program, is that the use of lawn irrigation systems and lawn sprinklers is now allowed for only 2 days per week, per the below schedule:
Addresses Ending in an Odd Number: Tuesday & Saturday from 4am – 9am
Addresses Ending in an Even Number: Thursday & Sunday from 4am – 9am
The use of low-volume hand held applicators, such as a garden hose with a low-flow nozzle, along with hand-held watering using containers for flowers and other landscaping is permissible at any time.
The City will continue to re-evaluate the water response status based on environmental conditions and City pumping abilities as conditions change. The City would like to thank the community and its water customers for their continued assistance in this initiative.
