Today we gather to celebrate the homecoming of a remarkable soul, Doris Irene Schram, a beacon of love and faith. Born on September 11, 1928, in Titonka, Iowa, It is with a heart full of cherished memories that we mark her peaceful passing on May 23, 2024, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Loraine Methodist Church, 28782 E. 2000th Street, Prophetstown, IL, 61277. Reverend Rod Dye will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, IL. Visitation services will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel, and from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the church prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be directed to Loraine Methodist Church.
Doris, completed her early education with the Titonka High School class of 1946. On December 7, 1947, Doris married Herbert Schram at a service held in Titonka, IA. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2011. She was a homemaker, and then as a substitute rural mail carrier. The church was important to her and was very active. At 86, Doris embarked on a mission trip to Mexico. She founded a prayer group and stood as an intercessor for her family, friends, and church. Doris was a former member of the Geneseo Quilt Guild and enjoyed all kinds of sewing.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving children, Dan (Mary) Schram of Milton, WI, Dr. Brian (Peggy) Schram of Ft. Collins, CO, Dr. Galin (Roberta) Schram of Loves Park, IL, Shelley (Wayne) Anderson of Geneseo, IL, and Charlotte (Bob) Verstreater of LaPorte, IN; grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott) Hull, Elizabeth (Nick) Cross, Andrew (Deborah Sumpter) Schram, Zach (Caroline) Schram, Matt (Audrey) Ballard, Melissa (Shane) Ballard, Jennifer (Luke) Miskol, Ben Schram, Matt (Heidi) Schram, Jason (Isa) Schram, Erin (Grant) Moore, Nicklaus (Kelli) Schram, Charles (Kayla) Schram, Eric (Tara) Anderson, Justin (Holly) Anderson, Auguste Anderson, Grant (Courtney) Gustafson, Alex (Madeline) Gustafson, Emily (Brandon) Holevoet, and Isaac Gustafson; thirty-two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Joann Carlson of Burt, IA, and Jean Nelson of Genoa, NE.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Nora (Hutchinson) Hagen; and her loving husband, Herbert Schram.
