The Geneseo Current Political Advertising Policy

Last Updated: 9-2-26

At The Geneseo Current, we are committed to fair and ethical journalism, and we extend that same commitment to our advertising practices. Political advertising is welcome, but it must meet the following non-partisan, community-first standards:

1. Equal Access

All legally registered political parties, candidates, and issue-based advocacy groups are eligible to purchase advertising with The Geneseo Current. We do not endorse or support any political party or candidate.

2. Standardized Pricing

Political advertisers will be offered the same rates, packages, and ad placement opportunities as any other business or organization. No preferential pricing or positioning will be given.

3. Ad Content Guidelines

All political ads must:

  • Clearly identify the sponsoring individual or organization (e.g., “Paid for by the Henry County Citizens for Change”)

  • Comply with all applicable election laws and advertising standards, including truth-in-advertising requirements. Content may be reviewed to ensure it does not contain defamatory, inciting, or legally actionable material.

  • Refrain from hate speech or personal attacks

The Geneseo Current reserves the right to refuse any ad that does not align with our community guidelines or presents legal liability concerns.

4. Transparency & Disclaimers

All political ads will be clearly labeled with a disclaimer indicating they are paid content and do not reflect the views or endorsements of The Geneseo Current or its staff.

Example:
Paid Advertisement – The views expressed do not reflect those of The Geneseo Current.

5. Equal Editorial Opportunities

If we feature candidate Q&As, issue guides, or election overviews, equal opportunity will be given to all qualifying candidates or parties. We do not allow campaign content to be published as editorial without proper advertising disclosures.

6. Political Ad Timing

Political ads may be accepted year-round, but we recommend reserving space at least 30 days in advance of your desired publication date, especially near elections.
