Saturday Road Trips For GHS Bowling

The Lady Leafs took part in the United Township Invite on Saturday December 9th where they finished 4th overall. With 4,553 pins, GHS finished behind champion Sterling (5,048), the host Panthers (5,003), and Moline (4,600). Next Up: Home on December 12th vs Erie (4:00pm).

The Maple Leafs also hit the road on December 9th as they traveled to the Illinois Valley Super Bowl for the LaSalle-Peru Cavalier Classic. With 5,394 pins, the Leafs finished 7th overall behind Oregon (6,015), Dixon (5,752), Naperville Central (5,738), Mendota (5,641), Plainfield North (5,552), & Rochelle (5,500). Lady Leafs Take 4th At Pontiac Invite!

The Lady Leafs traveled to Pontiac High School on Friday December 8th to participate in the Pontiac Girls Invite (aka The Munch). With 134 points, GHS finished 4th overall in the 33 team field behind tournament champion Edwardsville (207.5), Batavia (166), & Minooka (139). Molly Snyder (100) and Gia Ritter (140) finished 2nd in their respective weight classes.

The Maple Leafs participated at the Larry Gassen Dual Team Tournament On Saturday December 9th in Downers Grove, IL. Overall, GHS went 2-3 on the day which moved their dual record to 7-3 overall. Zachary Montez, Malaki Jackson, Kye Weinzierl each went 5-0 on the day with Devan Hornback (4-1), Brayden Franzen (4-1), Lincoln Barnett (3-2), Grady Hull (3-2) each finishing with winning records. Also competing for the Leafs were Cole Miller (2-3), Aaron Betcher (1-4), Jack Mickley (0-5), Wyatt Neumann (0-5), Logan Palmer (0-5).

Lady Leafs Took On Bettendorf In First Ever Home Dual Meet!

On Thursday December 7th, the Lady Leafs wrestling team hosted Bettendorf in their first ever home dual meet! The historic night at GHS saw the visiting Bulldogs pick up a 58-24 victory. Leaf winners were Lauren Piquard (Fall), Mady Mooney (Fall), Molly Neumann (Fall), Aislan Leetch (Forfeit).

Also competing for GHS were Molly Snyder, Claire Swanson, Lydia King, Bella Curcuru, Emily Bopes, Kolby Causemaker, Gia Ritter, & Macy Litherland. Next Up: Friday at The Pontiac Invite (aka The Munch) on Friday December 8th at Pontiac High School and at Davenport West on Wednesday December 13th.

GHS Grapplers Rally In Galesburg!

After falling 19 points behind after just six matches, GHS went on a 37-3 run to defeat the host Silver Streaks 43-28 on Tuesday December 5th in Galesburg! With the comeback victory, the Maple Leafs now stand at 5-0 in dual meets on the season. Picking up victories for the Leafs were Tim Sebastian (113/Fall/1:40), Malaki Jackson (144/MD/19-5), Josh Hock (157/Fall/1:08), Zachary Montez (165/Fall/2:55), Kye Weinzierl (175/Fall/1:10), Logan Palmer (190/Fall/1:29), Aaron Betcher (215/Fall/5:25), and Brayden Franzen (285/D/4-1).

Maple Leafs Take 1st At Rockford East Giardini Invite!

The Maple Leafs continue to roll as they finished 1st at the Rockford East Giardini Invite on Saturday December 2! With a final point total of 232.5, GHS beat out 2nd place Rochelle (223) and 3rd place Chicago St. Patrick (199). Tim Sebastian (113), Zachary Montez (150), & Kye Weinzierl were crowned champions of their respective weight classes. Montez was also named Giardini Tournament MVP!

Lady Leafs End The Week On A Strong Note!

On Thursday November 30 in Quincy, the Lady Leafs took one on the chin as the host Blue Devils dominated from start to finish in their 51-19 win. GHS (4-3, 1-2 WB6) came back with a vengeance on Saturday afternoon at GHS as they held off a tough Rock Island squad 34-32. Next Up: At Sterling on Thursday December 7 (7:00pm).

Busy Week Of Bowling For GHS!

Lady Leafs bowling traveled to Blackhawk Lanes in Sterling on Monday November 27 where the host Warriors picked up a 2,886-2,538 victory. Paige Swain led GHS with a 457 series followed by Lexi Johnson (455), and Olivia Dickey (450). Next Up: Home on Monday December 4 vs Rock Island (4:00pm).

A 653 series from Bryce Sanders led the Leafs in their 3,226-2,844 victory over the Warriors on November 28 in Sterling. GHS followed up the victory the following day with a tough loss at Rock Island 3,633-3,496 but rebounded on November 30 with a 3,587-3,351 win at Abingdon-Avon. Carter VanOpdorp paced the Maple Leafs with a 681 series. Next Up: At Mendota on Monday (4:00pm).

Maple Leaf Wrestling Defeats Alleman 76-0 In Home Debut!

The 2023-24 GHS Boys Wrestling Team made their home debut on Thursday November 30 where they cruised to a 76-0 squashing of WB6 foe Alleman. Picking up pinfall victories for the Leafs were Devan Hornback (126), Grady Hull (132), Zachary Montez (150), Aaron Betcher (215), & Brayden Franzen (285).

Malaki Jackson (157) grabbed a 20-10 major decision win while Izaac Gaines (144) along with Logan Palmer (190) each earned decisions with scores of 4-3 and 5-1 respectively. Forfeit wins went to Esref Onder (106), Cole Miller (113), Tim Sebastian (120), Lincoln Barett (138), Kye Weinzierl (165), Wyatt Neumann (175).

GHS Boys & Girls Bowling Teams In Action!

Maple Leafs Bowling finished 3rd at the Harlem Invite on Saturday November 25. Landon Pruett had the high game of 255 and finished 2nd overall with a 1,365 series. The Leafs totaled 5,892 pin during the meet.

Lady Leafs Bowling kicked off their season on Saturday November 25 at the Rock Island Invitational. Led by Allyson Fords 1,070 series, GHS finished 9th overall with 4,466 pins.

Next Up: The Lady Leafs travel to Blackhawk Lanes to take on Sterling on Monday November 27 and the Maple Leafs will make the same trip the following day. Both meets begin at 4:00pm.

Leafs Wrap Up Thanksgiving Tourney. Parker Named All-Tournament.

The 2023-24 Maple Leafs Basketball team opened up their season on Monday November 20 with a 58-41 victory over Erie-Prophetstown. The Leafs overall finished the Geneseo Thanksgiving Tournament with a 1-3 record and Owen Parker was named to the All-Tournament Team. 2A state finalist Rockridge were champions of the tournament with Rock Falls finishing 2nd.

Lady Leaf Wrestling Takes 1st In Rockford!

On Saturday November 25, the Lady Leafs Wrestling team took 1st place at the Rockford East Girls Invitational! With 142 points, they beat out 2nd place Wheeling (106) and 3rd place Richmond-Burton (99) to take the crown. Fourteen GHS grapplers finished in the top six of their respective weight classes including Molly Snyder who picked up another 1st place finish at 105.
