The Lady Leafs pulled out a tight 75-71 win while the visiting Silver Streaks defeated the Maple Leafs 83-63. Next Up: The Maple Leafs are at the Silver Streaks ABC Invite on Friday (4:00pm) while the Lady Leafs will compete at the Rock Island ABC Invite on Saturday 10:00am).

Olivia Marshall took 1st in both the shot put and discus as the Lady Leafs finished 4th overall at Friday’s Silver Streak Invitational at Monmouth College. Brooklyn Smith finished 2nd in the 3200m run while Jocelyn Cechowicz and Johnna Shoemaker took 2nd & 3rd respectively in the pole vault. Ella Toom earned 3rd place in the 800m run. Leafs Take Down Hall! Multiple Rallies Fall Short In Moline.

The Leafs made a Friday afternoon trip to Spring Valley where they defeated old NCIC foe Hall Township 13-0! Kolten Schmoll-Burton went 2-2 with two doubles while driving in two. AJ Weller and Logan Palmer added a pair of hits each while Kale Whitaker gave up just one hit in four innings pitched to earn the win. The bats were hot on the underclass level as well as the Leafs defeated Hall 16-6.

GHS followed up their Friday victory with a big Western Big 6 conference doubleheader in Moline. The host Maroons stopped a Leaf 7th inning rally to hold on for a 2-1 game one win. Schmoll-Burton scored the only Leaf run of the game and also pitched all six innings for GHS where he gave up only 2 hits while striking out three in the loss.

In the second of the twinbill, the Leafs fell behind 4-1 after five but rallied to cut the deficit to one but left the bases loaded in the 7th as Moline held on for the 4-3 win. Kruiz Ludwig went 3-3 with a double while driving in 2. The JV beat the Maroons 7-5 in game one and 4-3 in game two.

Lady Leafs Rout Galesburg & EP! Fall To UTHS.

The Lady Leafs bats were on fire during a cold Thursday afternoon at JFE as they dismantled Galesburg 23-0. Avery Kennedy, Olivia VanZuidan, Ella Pettit, & Celina Pena homered in the victory while Talisa Thomas & Kendyl Wassenhove combined to shutout the visiting Silver Streaks while only allowing a single hit and striking out four. The GHS JV followed up with a 17-2 win over Galesburg.

GHS was right back at it on Friday against United Township where the picked up from they left off the day before with an early 4-1 lead after two. However the Lady Panther bats came alive to outscore the Lady Leafs 14-2 over the final five innings en route to a 15-6 win. In underclass action, the JV were victorious over the UTHS JV 15-0.

The Lady Leafs finished off a busy three days at home with a 14-3 romp over Erie-Prophetstown! Kyah Newell went 4-4 and drove in 5 while Kendyl Wassenhove gave up only three hits and struckout nine as she picked up the win on the mound. The JV also put another in the win column as they topped EP 7-4.

Less than a week after she broke the shot put record set by Kendra Bos in 1996, senior Olivia Marshall eclipsed another GHS Hall Of Famer on Friday afternoon at GHS! With a throw of 140’ 10.25”, she surpassed Leaf great Sue Fortune who had set the previous record of 132’ 9.50” at the 1976 Kewanee Invitational. Congratulations Olivia!

The Lady Leafs returned from Arizona in style as they pummeled Alleman 12-1 in their Western Big 6 conference opener! Ella Pettit went 3-5 with an RBI and Talisa Thomas along with Celina Pena combined to strike out eight in the victory.

Pettit along with Avery Kennedy, Madisyn Buysse, & Kyah Newell went deep as GHS rallied late for a 14-8 win over Rock Falls in their home opener on Saturday at JFE! Kendyl Wassenhove picked up the win as she gave up only a single hit over 2.2 innings while striking out three.

The Lady Leafs move to 6-2 overall on the season and 1-0 in the Western Big Six! Next Up: Home vs United Township on Tuesday (4:30) at JFE.

A slugfest at the GHS pitch on Thursday March 28 saw UTHS rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit to tie the Lady Leafs 1-1. The visiting Panthers however won out 4-3 on penalty kicks to remain undefeated on the season while GHS fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The return home from Tennessee saw the Maple Leafs jump out to a 7-1 lead enroute to a five inning 12-2 victory over Orion on Wednesday afternoon at Stone Field! AJ Weller went 2-4 with a triple and double while knocking in a pair. Kruiz Ludwig picked up the win on the mound.

On Friday, it only took GHS four innings to come away with a dominant 21-1 win over host Macomb. Kale Whitaker, Ries, Kye Weinzierl, and Brennan Lambin went deep in the victory over the host Bombers with Whitaker hitting it out twice! Lambin also pitched an inning and a third to earn the victory.

Doubleheader Saturday in Quincy as the Leafs and Blue Devils got Western Big 6 play underway. QHS jumped out to a 7-1 lead through two in the opener and held off a Leafs rally 8-6. In the second game of the twinbill, it was GHS who jumped out to an early lead as they lead 6-3 heading but the Blue Devils put four on the board over the final three innings for a 7-6 comeback win.

The Leafs drop to 3-6 overall on the season and 0-2 in the Western Big Six. Next Up: Home vs Metamora on Tuesday (4:30) at Stone Field.

Senior Olivia Marshall broke the GHS girls shot put record on Saturday where she along with several Leaf teammates participated in the Illinois Top Times at Bloomington’s Illinois Wesleyan University! With a throw of 13.69m, Marshall who now holds two of the top three spots in the record book broke the 28 year old record held by GHS Athletic Hall Of Famer Kendra Bos (13.2461) which she herself set during the 1996 AA Sectionals. Congratulations Olivia!
