Softball: Lady Leafs Take Three Of Four At Washington Tourney

Lady Leafs 19 Williamsville 6

Seven Lady Leafs collected multiple hits which included triples by Madisyn Buysse, Avery Kennedy, McKenna Johnson, & Kendyl Wassenhove and doubles from Lauren Piquard and Lillian Brown as GHS routed Williamsville 19-6. Jaylee Brudos knocked in four in the Leafs victory.

Lady Leafs 8 West Aurora 6

Avery Kennedy went 4-4 which included a double plus two runs scored as the Lady Leafs held off West Aurora 8-6. Madisyn Buysse smacked a two run double in the bottom of the fourth that scored Kennedy and Lillian Brown which put GHS up for good.


April 19 - Washington Tournament - Washington Community High School
Lady Leafs 15 Normal University 6

Lillian Brown went 3-3 with two homeruns, a double, and four RBI as the Lady Leafs capped off a 3-1 tournament record with a 15-6 victory over Normal University. Madisyn Buysse also homered in the win and Lauren Piquard collected a three hits including a double plus four RBI. GHS improved their overall record to 14-6.

Kennedy & Buysse were named to the All-Tournament Team for a second time!

Chris Berry gave up just three hits plus a run over the course of six innings and Kale Whitaker stayed hot at the plate as he went 3-3 with three RBI and two runs scored as GHS won their second straight. Jackson McAvoy also collected three hits with 2 RBI and scoring three in the victory. Ethan Galloway, Kolten Schmoll-Burton, and Jacob Holley each added a double with Galloway knocking in two and Holley one. The Leafs record now stands at 8-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Kale Whitaker had a big day at the plate, going 3-3 with an RBI and a couple runs scored while Cooper Ries smacked a pair of doubles and drove in a run but the visiting Pioneers held off the Leafs 8-6 to send GHS to their third consecutive loss.

Down 3-0 in the 7th, the Lady Leafs managed to load the bases and push across a run on a Kyah Newell walk to score Madisyn Buysse but the Rocks held firm to hand GHS their first setback since March 27. Penny Kline collected a couple hits while Kendyl Wassenhove gave up just six hits and three runs in the loss.

Another day, another rally for the Lady Leafs. Lillian Brown smacked three doubles and scored three runs with Madisyn Buysse collecting a couple hits while driving in three as the Lady Leafs rallied late for the second consecutive game to defeat Kewanee 12-10. Avery Kennedy and McKenna Johnson each doubled and Mackenzie Air gave up a pair of hits and a single run over four plus innings in relief. The Lady Leafs ninth straight win improves their record to 11-4 overall.
