Greenhand Conference
On September 2nd, 14 of our new members attended the Blackhawk East Greenhand Conference, where first-year FFA members are invited to come together to work on different skills. Members had the opportunity to learn more about FFA, agricultural education, leadership, and the various opportunities they will be offered as they begin their FFA journey. It was a great way for them to meet other FFA students, build connections, and get excited about everything that FFA has to offer! One of our greenhands, Hailey Olson, said, “It was a great introduction to FFA, and a great way to work on team building and meet lots of members in our area. It was a great opportunity as a freshman!”
Planes, Trains, Automobiles
On September 12th, various Geneseo FFA Chapter members gathered downtown Geneseo to help out at the annual Planes, Trains, Automobiles event. Members assisted in parking the cars that were involved in the car show in the morning, and then helped the Geneseo FFA alumni sell pork chops over the lunch hours. It was a full team effort for our part in this event to run smoothly! It built teamwork skills and bonded members of our chapter. Additionally, it was a great way to volunteer our services and build connections with community members.
E-Waste Volunteering
On September 19th, members of the Geneseo FFA chapter traveled to the Public Works Building, where they volunteered their services by helping unload electronic waste. This is a great way to serve the community and environment by recovering valuable materials and protecting the environment from toxic chemicals. Attendee Jacey Gehl quoted, “It’s always a great time helping out our community and friends at the Geneseo Public Works center. This year we had a hard-working group of FFA member volunteers eager to put on their neon vests and unload E-waste!”
Members who volunteered include: Jack Gehling, Aidan Daly, Jacey Gehl, Faith Kuster, Hannah Wildemuth, Cheyenne Hopkey, Kaylin Heller, and Molly Wannemacher
Greenhand Social
On September 20th, the Geneseo FFA Officer team invited our greenhands and middle school ag club members to the high school for our Greenhand Social. We made them pancakes and socialized over our fun breakfast! Afterward, we went out to the football field and played fun games such as three-legged race, wheelbarrow race, and other fun water relay games. This was a great way to introduce our current and upcoming greenhands to what FFA entails within our chapter. Additionally, it was an even better way for the officer team to get to know the first-year members and for them to get more comfortable and familiar with their leaders!
