Geneseo FFA Celebrates October Successes, National Recognition and Community Connections

What a great month for Geneseo FFA! We started off strong with Farmer Fuel Packs, studied hard for Section 3 Job Interview, Ag Sales, AgEd, and State Land use, stuffed our suitcases full for National Convention, then saw great success at District 1 Job Interview, Ag Sales, and Ag Ed hosted here at Geneseo. We finished up with a bit of festivity and community fun with our 2nd Annual Haunt the Halls event!

Farmer Fuel Packs

Our FFA members put together Farmer Fuel Bags for local farmers to enjoy during harvest season! Each bag included different treats, items, and products representing a different part of agriculture. We are so thankful for everyone who helped make this project possible and for the opportunity to show our appreciation to the farmers who work hard to feed and provide for our communities! A huge thank you to Hanford Insurance for helping us make this amazing project happen!

Section 3 Job Interview, Ag Sales, and AgEd

Geneseo blew it out of the water at Section 3 Job Interview, Ag Sales, and AgEd Competitions! In Job Interview, Annabelle Betcher won 1st Place in Varsity, advancing to the District 1 competition, and Camryn Ebert placed 2nd in Junior Varsity. In Ag Sales, team members Annabelle Betcher (1st Place, Room A), Hannah Wildemuth (2nd Place, Room B), Jackson Frank (2nd Place, Room C), and David Betcher (1st Place, Room D) earned 1st place overall as a team and advanced to District. In AgEd, Maycie Sims placed 2nd in Varsity and advanced to the District competition, and Jillian McMahill placed 2nd in Junior Varsity. We are proud of all of them and their hard work!

National Convention

Fourteen students had the opportunity to load up a bus and traverse down to Indianapolis, Indiana for the 99th National FFA Convention and Expo. On the way, we were craving a sweet treat so we took a tour through a chocolate factory! We learned all about the origins of chocolate and the diversity of agriculture around the world. With some lightened wallets and goodie bags full of sweets, we loaded up the bus again. That night, Geneseo FFA attended the Three Hills Rodeo and enjoyed the company of other members from across the country. After getting some well needed rest, the next morning students got all dolled-up in their official dress and headed for Lucas Oil Stadium. There, we heard inspiring keynote speeches, retiring addresses, and put on our dancing shoes at around 7am with 73,000 other FFA members everywhere from Alaska to the Virgin Islands, and from Maine to Hawaii.

At the one morning session, chapter members were first in line to get into Lucas Oil Stadium to snatch good seats to see one of our very own vice-presidents, Kolby Causemaker, be recognized. Kolby was recognized as a top 4 finalist for swine production– top 4 in the entire nation! Kolby put so many hours of hard work into her project, filling out her recordbook, and preparing for many interviews to achieve what she did. We are so proud of her!

Another successful chapter member, Lydia Carton, also had a chance to be on stage at Convention. Lydia learned new music, auditioned for the prestigious National FFA Band in June, and before she knew it she was heading for a week filled with many hours of rehearsals and performances at the 99th National Convention and Expo. What an honor!

To keep adding to the fun, we went to Hanna Haunted Acres to enjoy various haunted houses, a haunted corn maze, and a haunted hayrack ride!

In Job Interview, our very own Annabelle Betcher won 1st place and will be advancing to State! In Ag Sales, team Annabelle Betcher, Jackson Frank, Hannah Wildemuth, and David Betcher earned 2nd place and will also advance to the State competition. In AgEd Maycie Sims earned 3rd place! We are extremely proud of all of these individuals for their success and dedication.

Additionally, Geneseo FFA would like to thank all AgEd students and event volunteers for helping out and making this successful District 1 competition possible.

Haunt the Halls

We had a SPOOKTACULAR time at our 2nd Annual Haunt the Halls event here at Geneseo High School alongside families and friends from our community. Our FFA members worked together to plan and design creative rooms for Geneseo trick-or-treaters to enjoy.

We would love to extend our sincere gratitude to Underground Graphics, Sellman Cox Agency, Miller Trucking & Excavating, Fareway, M&B Supply, and Geneseo Home Furnishings for making this event possible.
