Blush by Lisa Brings Hair, Vintage Fashion and Curated Thrift to Downtown Geneseo

A new downtown Geneseo business is bringing professional hairstyling and carefully selected secondhand fashion together under one roof.

Blush by Lisa opens at 10am Sept. 1 at 106A N. State St., offering salon services alongside a curated collection of vintage clothing, modern women’s apparel, footwear, retro jewelry and distinctive home accents.

The concept brings together two longtime passions for owner Lisa: helping clients feel their best and searching for unique secondhand treasures.

“After over 20 years as a local hairstylist, my chair has always been a place where people come to feel good, refresh their look and connect,” she said. “Beyond the salon, I’ve developed a huge passion for vintage hunting and finding high-quality thrifted treasures.”

Combining the two interests felt like a natural next step.

“I wanted to build a unique hybrid space where clients could get a professional hair transformation and browse a thoughtfully curated boutique all in one visit,” Lisa said. “Bringing both under one roof lets me offer a full beauty and style experience right here in Geneseo.”

A Focus on Wearable Vintage

Although Blush will carry a mixture of vintage and contemporary items, Lisa said the store’s primary emphasis will be true vintage clothing.

Customers can expect to find statement tops from the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s, along with vintage dresses, classic denim, retro outerwear and accessories. Modern women’s clothing, shoes, jewelry and home accents will round out the selection.

Rather than accepting everything that comes her way, Lisa individually selects each item based on its quality, construction and character.

“I look for quality retro fabrics, original vintage tailoring, timeless charm and wearable nostalgia,” she said. “I want every trip to Blush to feel like finding that rare gem you can’t get anywhere else.”

Every piece of clothing is laundered, spot-cleaned, steamed and prepared before it reaches the sales floor.

That attention to presentation is central to Lisa’s goal of showing customers that secondhand shopping can still feel polished and elevated.

A Boutique Experience Built Around Personality

Inside Blush, pink tones, fresh sage-green accents and a combination of vintage and modern furnishings create the atmosphere Lisa envisioned for the business.

She wants the shop to feel energetic, welcoming and vibrant, whether someone is arriving for a haircut, shopping for an outfit or doing both.

Customers might browse the racks while their hair color processes, stop in solely for a salon appointment or visit the boutique in search of something special for the weekend.

“I want every customer to feel relaxed, pampered and inspired when they walk out the door,” Lisa said.

Creating that environment required extensive work.

Lisa and her helpers repainted the space, updated the cabinetry, replaced the lighting and deep-cleaned the building from top to bottom. In keeping with the business’s focus on reuse, nearly all of its décor was purchased secondhand.

Items came from estate sales, thrift-store trips and even local basements, allowing forgotten pieces to become part of the new shop.

“The most exciting part was unearthing unique secondhand décor and watching those thrifted finds come together with our fresh paint, updated lighting and salon setups to build a cozy, elevated vibe,” Lisa said.

The renovation also brought an unexpected challenge when Lisa’s husband was sidelined in the middle of the work.

Instead of allowing the setback to halt the project, members of the community stepped in to help complete the transformation.

“Balancing inventory prep, salon scheduling and major physical updates was tough,” Lisa said. “But seeing this community pull together to bring the vision to life made it so special.”

Giving Clothing a Second Life

During Blush’s first year, Lisa hopes to establish the business as a State Street destination where people feel comfortable stopping in regularly—even when they do not have a salon appointment.

She also wants the boutique to demonstrate that sustainability and personal style can work together.

“Above all, I’m thrilled to champion the power of ‘reuse, reduce and recycle’—helping beautiful, high-quality clothing items find a second life instead of ending up in a landfill,” she said.

Her first-year goals include building strong community connections, creating a go-to downtown destination and seamlessly blending salon appointments with boutique shopping.

Blush will also participate in community events throughout the fall. Lisa plans to open the boutique for the Trains, Planes & Automobiles Street Festival Sept. 10–12 and the State Street Market on Oct. 3.

For Lisa, opening the doors is an opportunity to share a business that reflects her personality, her experience behind the chair and her belief that pre-loved fashion deserves a place to shine.

“I’m most excited for the community to experience the concept in person,” she said, “and discover that thrifting can feel like a boutique shopping trip.”
