Breakfast with The Current Offers Readers a Seat at the Table

The Geneseo Current is launching a new way to connect with the community — over breakfast and a cup of coffee.

The first Breakfast with The Current will be held Friday, Sept. 4, from 8 to 9 a.m. at Caffeine & Carbs, 1225 S. Oakwood St. in Geneseo.

The informal gathering will give readers an opportunity to meet members of The Current team, talk about the stories and issues shaping the community and learn more about what we're working on.

More importantly, it gives us a chance to listen.

As The Current's audience and coverage have grown, so have the questions, story ideas, and conversations coming from readers. Breakfast with The Current is a way to bring some of those conversations out of the comment section and inbox and into a face-to-face setting.

There is no formal presentation or agenda. Readers can stop in, grab breakfast or coffee, and join the conversation.

We can talk about some of the stories we're covering and what's coming up, but we also want to know what readers think deserves more attention. That could be local government, schools, development, businesses, sports, community events, or something we haven't thought to ask about yet.

It's also an opportunity to ask questions about The Current itself — how we choose stories, gather information, and approach local coverage.

Some of the best local reporting starts with someone asking a simple question or pointing us toward something we didn't know about. One of the primary goals of Breakfast with The Current is to create another place for those conversations to happen.

Breakfast with The Current is open to anyone. There is no admission charge and no registration is required. Attendees can purchase their own coffee, breakfast or other items from Caffeine & Carbs.

The Sept. 4 gathering will be the first Breakfast with The Current, with additional events possible in the future.
