Danny Powell has been named “Volunteer of the Month” at the Geneseo-Atkinson Food Pantry. He has been volunteering at the Food Pantry for almost one year, where he sorts and displays clothing and household item donations, and helps carry items for guests.
Powell and his wife, Charlotte, have been married for 44 years. They have three married children and four grandchildren, as well as a “spoiled” Boxer -mix dog.
Powell enjoys fishing, hunting and bird-watching. He also is a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls fan, and said the best thing about volunteering at the Food Pantry is “that it is one way to serve God and help others.”
He shared that he tends to be shy and volunteering at the pantry helps him meet and work with people. He likes working with his new friends who also work in the clothing room, and he said they help him to feel less-embarrassed when he is sorting ladies undergarments or other clothing such as a sari and he’s not sure what they are…”It always brings a good laugh!”
Nicole Freadhoff, assistant director at the Food Pantry, said, “Thank you for your help, Danny!”
