Marinn Cisna
The art work of Marinn Cisna of Galva, a member of the RutabagA Art Gallery in downtown Geneseo, is featured this month in the Gallery window.
Cisna is an artist, painter and musician, and said she was drawn to art at an early age. As far back as she can remember, she has loved to express herself artistically. She began oil painting as a teenager and received instruction from local artists.
She now studies under Master Painter Daniel Gerhartz.
The artist works in a representational style and her paintings often feature passages of quiet sensitivity and subtle nuances. She frequently paints from life, emphasizing light, form, color, edge work, and paint application. By observing the effects of light around her, particularly in plein air, she is able to develop greater sensitivity in her pieces.
Cisna said she finds inspiration in the seemingly ordinary. Sometimes she deliberately seeks it, and other times inspiration comes to her during unexpected beautiful moments. Often It is a glimpse of something fleeting. She also is influenced by music, early photography, poetry, literature, and other art forms.
Her favorite subject matter includes outdoor figures, Midwest landscapes, florals and portraits.
For Cisna, art is a call to infinite beauty. Through her work, she hopes that others will be led beyond the visual element of the painting and experience the beauty of God.
She said that each painting is also a chance for her to express her appreciation for the beauty of this world, and Cisna added, “I am thrilled to be a witness to beauty and to have the gift of sharing it with paint. I hope my paintings point to our Creator and radiate peace, joy, and hope.”
