Sylvia Baumgardner, GHS Grad 2021, has earned her Girl Scout Gold Award. This award is the highest award in Girl Scouting. Sylvia remembered playing on the state map painted on the playground at Southwest Elementary and how much fun it was.

The new addition to the school is where that map was located so she wanted to bring the map back for kids to play and learn with. Her project was to paint the USA map at Southwest and touch up the existing map at Millikin Elementary schools.

She also created booklets for all the 4th grade teacher at each school with games to play with the map to help the kids learn their states. This project was not easy to do and took a lot of hard work, persistence and dedication to get completed.

Thank you to those who generously donated money, Geneseo Kiwanis Club, GS Service Unit 886 of Geneseo, and to all those that helped support Sylvia along the way especially Troop Leader Jennifer Nelson and Mentor Anne Ryerson.
