Orion Fireworks Festival set for July 3

The Orion Fireworks Festival will be Monday, July 3, with a rain date of Tuesday, July 4.

 At 5 p.m., food vendors and Main Street Orion's face painting will be along 13th Street on the west side of the student parking lot at Orion High School.

 At 8:45 p.m. the lighted parade will begin. Parade entries will leave the parking lot at Orion Middle School and cut across 12th Avenue to go north on Eighth Street. The parade will turn and go east on 11th Avenue to 13th Street. After one block, it will turn on 12th Avenue to go west to the middle school.

 After the parade, the fireworks display will begin at Charger Field. Spectators should bring lawn chairs because seating will not be available on bleachers.

 Parade entry form:  Registration forms are available on the Orion Fireworks Festival page on Facebook and in businesses around the village.

 Completed forms should be mailed to Orion Fireworks Festival, c/o Deena Johnson, P.O. Box 664, Orion IL 61273.

 Categories include business, Jeep, children's entry, ag entry, recreational vehicle (golf carts, quads and ATVs), lifted and lighted trucks, and general.  

 Entries will stage from 7:45 to 8:15 p.m. in the OMS parking lot. The parade begins about 8:45 p.m.

 Judges will choose an overall winner to receive $100 and category winners to receive $50 each. The judges' decisions will be final.

 Candy may not be thrown from moving vehicles, but walkers can distribute it.
