Stumphy’s Restaurant & Bar has found its next home — and for owners Jason and Amy, the move brings them back to where their story began.

Stumphy’s will relocate from Sugar Maple Golf Club outside Geneseo to the former Captain’s Table location on the Moline riverfront, with plans to reopen Nov. 4.

The new location carries a particularly personal connection for Jason and Amy. The two met while working at the original Captain’s Table in the late 1990s, later celebrated their wedding reception there, and remained part of the restaurant’s staff until leaving in 2004.

Now, more than two decades later, they are preparing to return to the same location with a restaurant of their own.

The riverfront property has gone through several changes since its Captain’s Table days and has been shuttered for approximately 14 months since Catfish Charlie’s closed.

The move will also give Stumphy’s considerably more room to grow. The new restaurant will have seating for approximately 300 people indoors and another 75 on the patio, along with a larger kitchen.

About 60% of Stumphy’s current menu will remain, with additional offerings planned for the expanded restaurant. Among the additions will be a 24-ounce rock lobster tail.

That growth will extend to the restaurant's workforce. Stumphy’s currently employs 18 people and plans to retain its existing staff through the transition. As the Moline operation grows, the restaurant expects to eventually hire up to 50 additional employees.

Stumphy’s plans to reopen in Moline Nov. 4. Winter hours are expected to be 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Sunday, with the restaurant closed Mondays.

Before making the move, however, Stumphy’s will have one more buffet at Sugar Maple.

The restaurant's last day will be Sunday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m.–2 p.m., with a buffet and brunch planned for the sendoff.

The owners expressed gratitude to the Geneseo community for supporting Stumphy’s during its time at Sugar Maple. While leaving the area is bittersweet, the move gives the restaurant substantially more room to grow while bringing Jason and Amy back to the riverfront location where their story together began.

Stumphy’s has operated from the Sugar Maple clubhouse since April 2026.
