The recent Annual Breast Cancer Awareness event, hosted by the Sugar Maple Ladies Golf League and held at Sugar Maple Golf Club, Geneseo, raised a total of $2,780 which was donated to the Trinity Cancer Center Expansion Fund.
Forty-three ladies participated in the annual event, representing Erie Country Club, Hidden Lake Country Club in Sheffield and Baker Park in Kewanee, in addition to two lady golfers from Arkansas.
The “Swing FORE the Cure” included nine holes of golf with special prizes, a salad luncheon provided by Stumphy’s Restaurant at the Sugar Maple Golf Course, and a raffle drawing. Karen Taylor of Sheffield carded the low score for the day.
Sugar Maple Golf League members Linda DeMoss and Janice Durick served as co-chairpersons for this year’s outing.
The Sugar Maple Ladies Golf League expressed appreciation to Sugar Maple Golf Club for allowing them to host the golf outing. All participants, in addition to other members of the Sugar Maple Ladies Golf League, made monetary donations to the Trinity Health Foundation. Many also donated homemade and purchased items for the raffle drawings.
In addition, raffle items were donated by these Geneseo businesses: Sugar Maple Golf Club, Stumphy’s Restaurant, BEMER Health and Wellness-Julie Theil, Country Financial – Eric Henderson, Pampered Chef – Beth Ford, A Spotted Apron – Kim Schwarzkopf, Designs on the Boulevard, Village Florist, Village Home Stores, Kent Johnson – Manager GEN-AIR Inc., Scooters, Anthology for Books, The Cellar, Culver’s, Dairy Queen, Fareway, Blain’s Farm & Fleet, Four Seasons, Habaneros Mexican Grill, Lavender Crest, The Local Motive, Richmond Hill Players, State Street Café, Sweet Peas, and Sunrise Café.
From the gifts donated by the local businesses, the raffle raised $765, registration gifts brought $1,840, with a 50/50 drawing of $100.50, $40 for Mulligans, and $15 for Cookies, were included in the total of $2,780 presented to the Trinity Cancer Center Expansion Fund.
The Sugar Maple Ladies Golf League began the “Swing for the CURE Event” in 2017 in coordination with the Trinity Health Foundation with a focus on Breast Cancer Fund and Breast Screenings Fund.
In 2024, the League made a commitment to the QC Trinity Center Expansion Fund for an amount of $7,500 over five years.
A spokesperson for the Ladies Golf League said, “This amount seemed like an improbable goal, but the ladies of the League met that goal in only three years. The latest statement of giving sent from Colleen Rafferty, Director of Development, Unity Point, Trinity Health Foundation, shows that since 2017, the Sugar Maple Ladies Golf League has donated $18,568.50 to the Trinity Health Care Foundation to bring cancer and life-saving treatments to our area.”
