The Scoop: February 10th, Regular Council Meeting

The City plans to expand its municipal boundaries by annexing about 19 acres (all owned by J.F. Edwards Construction) east of Chicago Street along Ford Road. The land will support a multi-million-dollar expansion of J.F. Edwards Construction Company’s headquarters in Geneseo and grow jobs at the facility. As part of the development, a TIF district will be created to support sanitary sewer extensions down Ford Rd and Chicago St. City officials and J.F. Edwards Construction Company are partnering to move the project and the proposed TIF redevelopment area forward.

The City will install a new sidewalk along the east side of Chicago Street, with construction scheduled for completion this fall. The sidewalk will extend from East Wells Street south to Exchange Street. Marked crosswalks will also be included as part of the project to improve pedestrian access and safety along the corridor.

In late July, the pickleball courts at Richmond Hill will undergo resurfacing as part of scheduled maintenance and facility improvements.

The City’s north water tower is scheduled to undergo comprehensive maintenance in 2026. The project will include full surface stripping, resurfacing, and recoating of the exterior structure, along with required interior maintenance and rehabilitation work.

North State Street construction initiative is scheduled to begin March 9, with active construction anticipated to commence March 10 from Wells Street north to Ogden Avenue. Substantial completion is targeted for early August, with the exception of final tree plantings and seeding, which will be completed as seasonal conditions allow in the Fall.
