A small business that took root in Geneseo in 1998 has grown to become a regional destination.
Geneseo, Illinois— 7/6/23 — This July 6th, 2023, marks 25 years for Village Home Stores at 105 S State Street in historic downtown Geneseo, Illinois. Village Home Stores has expanded and grown quite a bit since arriving in Geneseo in 1998. What began with only an appliance storefront at 105 S State, has evolved and expanded to three storefronts and two floors of showroom and offices within one location. In addition to the appliance storefront that opened in 1998, Village Home Stores now offers a complete one-stop-shopping experience to both remodel and new home customers.
“We are proud to now employ over 35 people at Village Home Stores. We are very excited about what the future holds in the next 25 years for Village Home Stores and our employees and are very appreciative of all the local support we get,” said Jim Ries, Co-Owner at Village. “Since the beginning our focus has always been listening to our customer base and adapting as necessary to serve them better. This led us to adding our lighting department many years ago when many of our customers expressed a need for it. Feedback from customers purchasing products for remodels over the years also led us to expand our offerings again by providing full remodel project management services. Over the last ten years this has become a core offering for us by providing start-to-finish kitchen and bathroom remodel projects where we handle everything from the products to the subcontractors. We are excited about the growth that this service has seen since the beginning. We have grown from handling just a few dozen completed projects in a year to now hundreds each year. This has also led to continued employee growth in our business.”

Village Home Stores has been family-owned and operated since 1984 beginning with Art and Cindy Ries at Village Hardware and Appliance (Cambridge, Illinois). Village Home Stores is now fully based out of the State Street Geneseo, Illinois location and co-owned and operated by brothers Rob Ries and Jim Ries.
Customers can shop in all departments all in one location. Village Home Stores provides products and services including complete project management remodels for a large radius of over 45 miles from their showroom and warehouses located in Geneseo. Multiple Village Home Stores warehouse buildings are located just North of town off Rt 82. As a visual extension of the store, Village Home Stores also produces and airs a weekly 30 minute television program called the “Village Home Show” This program began in 2014 and airs every Sunday morning at 10:30am on WQAD News Ch. 8 (ABC).
