Illinois provides Rapid Response and Dislocated Worker services following major layoffs and plant closures.
Eligible workers may be connected with employment assistance, individualized career services, training opportunities and other available workforce resources.
Workers affected by a permanent facility closure or substantial layoff may qualify for additional services through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

Losing employer-sponsored health insurance may qualify you and your family for other health coverage. Options may include Get Covered Illinois, Medicaid, All Kids or COBRA.

Losing job-based health insurance is generally considered a qualifying life event that allows you to enroll in health coverage outside the normal Open Enrollment period.
In most cases, you may enroll through Get Covered Illinois up to 60 days before or 60 days after losing employer health coverage. Financial assistance may be available depending on household income.

If you have an existing work-related injury or workers’ compensation claim — especially if you have surgery scheduled, are receiving treatment, are on work restrictions or expect to need additional care — make sure you understand how the plant closure may affect the administration of your claim.
Illinois workers’ compensation benefits may include necessary medical treatment, surgery, rehabilitation and disability benefits for qualifying work-related injuries.
Before your employment ends, keep copies of important information including your claim number, insurance carrier or claims administrator, adjuster contact information, medical records, work restrictions, upcoming appointments and treatment authorizations.
