James “Jim” Maynard Dahl, 91, of Geneseo, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Allure – Geneseo, surrounded by his loving family.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Edford Township with a visitation an hour prior at the church.  Pastor Timothy Nerud will officiate.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Edford Township.  Military Honors will be accorded by Orion American Legion – Post 255.  A visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Orion VFW – Post 143, PO Box 666, Orion, IL, 61273, the Orion American Legion – Post 255, 409 11th Avenue, Orion, IL, 61273, or St. John’s Lutheran Church, 8948 N. 1900th Avenue, Geneseo, IL, 61254.

Jim was born on July 4, 1932, the son of Charles and Francis (Peterson) Dahl, in Orion, IL.  He graduated from Orion High School, class of 1950.  On August 25, 1956, James married Shirely Maeltzer at a service at St. John’s Lutheran Church.  He was a lifelong farmer.  Jim was a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau, Henry County Pork Producers, St. John’s Lutheran Church, and enjoyed attending all of Geneseo High School’s sporting events.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Kindra (John) Thompson, Geneseo, and Michael (Janice) Dahl, Osco, IL; grandchildren, Jason (Cassie) Dahl, Jamie (Ky) Lambin, Justine (Justin) Mitchell, Jessica Johnson, and Luke (Nicole) Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Lydia Dahl, Jaelyn, Brennan, and Mayson Lambin, Carson, Emerson, and Rylan Mitchell, Aidan Coppejans, Graysen Carlson, Aaron, Adam, and Andrew Thompson.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Francis Dahl; wife, Shirley Dahl; brothers, Richard (Marilyn) and William (Mardell) Dahl; and sisters, Beatrice (Robert) Strandlund and Rosemary (Robert) Jagger.
