Scarecrow Row Returns to Geneseo: How to Participate in the 2026 Halloween Tradition

The Geneseo Chamber of Commerce is inviting residents, families, businesses, churches, school clubs, and community organizations to get creative this Halloween as Scarecrow Row returns to Geneseo City Park on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

The annual Halloween Extravaganza will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring imaginative scarecrow displays, trick-or-treating, and prizes for the most creative entries. This year's goal is to fill the park with 100 scarecrows.

“Participating in Scarecrow Row is a chance for local groups and businesses to have fun, get into the fall spirit, and show up for their community,” said Geneseo Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lindsie Akers. “It's about coming together to create a fun experience for the kids.”

Participating is simple, and the Chamber is providing free wooden scarecrow frames to help community members get started.

Anyone interested in creating a scarecrow can pick up a free frame and building information at Smith Studio and Gallery, located at 124 S. State St. in downtown Geneseo, or at the Geneseo Chamber of Commerce office at City Hall.

Participants can decorate their scarecrows however they choose, using costumes, seasonal decorations, creative themes, or other materials to bring their designs to life. Finished scarecrows must be delivered to Geneseo City Park by 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 31.

The Chamber will recognize the most imaginative entries with Geneseo Chamber Gift Certificates. First place will receive $100, second place will receive $75, and third place will receive $50.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the scarecrow displays throughout the day. Children can also enjoy trick-or-treating in the park from 10 a.m. to noon. Scarecrow participants have the option of standing beside their creations and distributing candy or small treats to visiting children.

Following trick-or-treating, a Dog Costume Contest will give four-legged family members an opportunity to join the Halloween festivities.

Additional Halloween activities are scheduled around Geneseo on October 31. Concordia Lutheran Church will host Trunk or Treat in its parking lot from 10 a.m. to noon, while Allure of Geneseo will welcome trick-or-treaters to its campus from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Whether participating with a homemade scarecrow or simply enjoying the displays, residents are encouraged to visit Geneseo City Park and take part in the community celebration.

For those interested in entering Scarecrow Row, the important details are simple: pick up a free frame, create a scarecrow, and have it at Geneseo City Park by 10 a.m. on October 31.
