Geneseo, IL - In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the City of Geneseo and Geneseo Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will plant a liberty tree on Arbor Day at the site of the first pioneer structure on S. State St. and Oakwood Avenue. This planting also supports the city’s efforts to earn national recognition as a Tree City USA

The two will also support Mayor Johnson’s designation of Geneseo as an Illinois America 250 Community. Illinois America 250 is an inclusive, statewide effort to bring together Illinoisans’ diverse perspectives about our history–and our future–as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026.  Stay tuned for more information about upcoming Independence and Labor Day celebrations.
