Geneseo, IL - Now on exhibit at the Geneseo Quilt Gallery is the second seasonal show of quilts made by members of the Geneseo Quilt Guild. On Friday, August 7th at 4:30 there will be a ribbon cutting to honor this new creative gallery in Geneseo. This ribbon cutting will be conducted by the Geneseo Chamber of Commerce, and many members of the Geneseo Quilt Guild will be present to answer questions about the quilted art that is on exhibit.
These colorful and artistic creations show the skill of local artisans while also demonstrating some of the many reasons a quilt might be made. One quilt, titled “Y2K Millennium Charm Quilt”, has a fascinating history as it took over 22 years to be completed with 2000 pieces. These individual pieces came from many States in America as well as Guam, France, Russia, Saudi Arabia and other countries. What an unusual statement of cooperation across borders!
The Geneseo Quilt Gallery can be found in the Upper Mezzanine of the Smith Studio and Gallery in downtown Geneseo. Exhibitions are changed seasonally so that every few months there will be wonderful new quilts for families to explore and enjoy.
This exhibit is open and free to the public. Hours at the Smith Studio and Gallery are generally Tuesday-Saturday 10:00-5:00. If you are coming from out of town it is suggested that you first call 309-945-5428 to confirm that the Gallery is open. Or call to set up a private viewing.
