Henry County Begins Data Center Review During Moratorium

Henry County officials have begun gathering information about data centers as the county continues its moratorium on new data center development.

Henry County Board Chairman Kippy Breeden said the Planning and Development Committee met Tuesday, Aug. 11, and began discussing and gathering information about data centers from surrounding sources.

“Our Zoning Officer Kyle Stromquist will have this item on the Planning and Development committee agenda for October to allow for time to collect pertinent information and how best to apply it to Henry County,” Breeden said.

The work follows the Henry County Board’s decision in June to approve a one-year moratorium on new data center development.

The moratorium provides the county time to study the issue before considering how data center development should be addressed locally.

Based on Breeden's response, the county is currently in the information-gathering stage, with the issue expected to return to the Planning and Development Committee in October.

Breeden did not provide additional details about which surrounding sources the county is consulting or what specific information is being collected.
