Millikin Grade School Principal Philip Moe described it as a “team effort,” in his reference to the recently-completed new playground section on the grounds of the grade school.

An opening ceremony and ribbon cutting were held Thursday to officially celebrate the completion of the new playground area. In addition to adults, many Millikin students were at the event to take part in the ribbon cutting.

Moe said planning and fundraising efforts for the project began in 2020 “and a lot of people worked very hard to make this a reality.”

“We’d especially like to thank Angela Krause and the Millikin PTA for taking the lead on this project as well as Randy Bormann (head of Geneseo School District maintenance) and his entire maintenance team for working through all the logistics with so much flexibility. They both put a lot of hours into this project and I feel like the finished product shows off their hard work.”

In addition, Moe thanked many individual families, companies and grant organizations for contributions.

The new playground equipment/area includes – partially accessible – platform, ramp, items to climb, slides, a concrete border around the area as well as concrete ramps to access the area, kettle drums, other musical items and a universal rubber surfacing.
