Geneseo Current
Geneseo’s Richmond Hill Players continue their 2023 season with the thriller “Misery” by William Goldman, adapted from the novel by Stephen King. The show will be presented Thursdays through Sundays, June 1-11, at the Barn Theatre in Richmond Hill, Geneseo.
Dana Skiles, Geneseo, directs the show.
Successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon is rescued from a wintry car crash by his self-described “Number One Fan,” Annie Wilkes, and he wakes up captive in her secluded Colorado home. While Paul is convalescing, Annie reads the manuscript of his latest book and becomes enraged when she discovers the author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Annie forces Paul to write a new Misery Novel, and he quickly realizes Annie has no intention of letting him go anywhere. The irate Annie has Paul writing as if his life depends on it…and it does.
“Misery” is a psychological thriller with strong language and stage violence. Parental guidance is advised.
The cast features Jackie Skiles and Jonathan Grafft, both of Geneseo; and Patrick Kelley, Kewanee.
The staff includes stage manager Megan McConville; Crewperson Bella McConville; light designer Jennifer Kingry; sound designer Larry Lord; sound designer/booth operator Dana Skiles; set builder Mike Skiles, all of Geneseo; and set builder, Jim Skiles, Colona.
