The Geneseo Community Unit School District 228 Board of Education approved the district’s FY27 budget Thursday night, along with several other financial and policy measures during its Sept. 10 regular meeting.

The board began the evening with a public hearing on the FY27 budget before reconvening its regular meeting. The final budget was then approved as part of the board’s regular business.

Among other action Thursday, the board approved a resolution supporting military-connected students and families, which had reached its second reading. The board also approved a permanent transfer of working cash and accepted the district’s diesel fuel bid.

The board also approved its consent agenda, which included the Aug. 13 regular and closed-session minutes, the district financial report, new and closed student activity accounts, a gift to the district from David and Barbara Dent, and the district’s FOIA report.

Personnel matters approved Thursday included several extracurricular and support assignments as well as resignations, leaves and future retirements. Among those listed were the retirements of GHS Principal Thomas Ryerson and GHS PE/driver education teacher Daniel Rakestraw, both at the end of the 2030-31 school year.

Looking ahead, district officials expect to take up the tentative tax levy this fall. Proposals for projects funded through the countywide 1% sales tax are due Oct. 1 for review by the Buildings and Grounds Committee, and a resolution of intent for working cash bonds is expected in November.
