Fishing Report
With a beautiful last Saturday morning, Gary Dahlquis and I thought we try our luck on a small private lake in Henry County. We bombed out. I told Gary I think the water is still too cold. Ha! To that he said, “Yeah, but you can catch fish through the ice.” Ha! Good point! I had one bite during the hours. I was using minnows for bait. Still, it was nice just getting outside.
Purchase Fishing License
In last week’s column I mentioned the closest place to purchase your 2026-27 fishing license is E-Z Livin’ Sports Center in Milan. Oooops! Gary D. told me he got his at Geneseo’s Wal-Mart store. Go to the back of the store where they sell sporting goods and find a clerk who can help you.
At Geneseo’s Farm & Fleet store you can purchase worms and waxies. That’s fine, but they don’t sell minnows and E-Z Livin’ has both small and large size. They also have a very large selection of fishing gear. E-Z Livin’ store hours are: M-F from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Their phone # is: 309-747-2244. Their address is: 231 1st Ave West, Milan, IL.
Hardboards have been Busy
There has been some really good tournament basketball games on the boob- tube. While hitting the keyboards and doing this column, spell-check has been busy. Illinois State, which we just watched, is one of our favorite teams and they beat Wake Forrest, 78 – 75. Iowa State (M) and Illinois (W&M) have won so we’ll see how they do this week. I’m very happy that Notre Dame (W) is still in the hunt. I could watch that guard, Hannah Hidalgo, all day long. In the real world, I think UConn (W), will take it all. They are just way “tooooo” good!!!!
Music to ‘yer Ears
Don’t forget that in a few months you will be able to enjoy some great music courtesy of the Maple City Band and other bands, as well. Here is a list of the Maple City Band Concerts: Tuesday, June 2, 7 p.m.; Tuesday, June 9, 7 p.m.; Tuesday, June 16, 7 p.m., Tuesday, MC German Band June 30, TBD; Saturday, 4th of July, 1 p.m. MCB and Tuesday, July 14 @ 7 p.m.
What has really become popular in the past few years is the Maple City German Band. Make sure to check ‘em out! Also, stop at the Ice Cream Social in the pavilion. With many of the organizations it is a good money maker. ‘Tis good to support ‘em.
