NCAA Tournament
My favorite college basketball teams did not do so well in their respective divisional playoffs. Thankfully we’re now in the NCAA “Big One” tournament so we can see our favorite teams again, hopefully! Our favorite men’s teams are Illinois, Iowa State, Notre Dame and Nebraska. If you haven’t seen the pairings for those teams here they are: Illinois (3) vs. Penn (14), Iowa State (2) vs. Tenn St.(15), and Nebraska (4) vs. Troy (15). For the women’s teams: Illinois (7) vs. Colorado (10); Iowa State (8) vs. Syracuse (9) and of course, Notre Dame (6) vs. Fairfield (11). I really admire Hannah Hidalgo of ND. I don’t think in all my years of watching BB have I seen such a player show 100% passion and intensity. She is just fun to watch. Unfortunately, the rest of the team is good, but not up to the caliber of a lot of teams. They lost 4 of their starters last season so hopefully next season will be better. Hidalgo is a junior so she’ll be back next season. UConn takes it all. They have so many good players and an excellent coach. I always say there is UConn and then there is the rest of the teams. So, let the games begin!!!!!
Ugly
I know there is “Beauty in the Beholder” but I think there are some really ugly college BB courts or gyms. One gym looks like poured concrete and another one has painted fir trees while another has white feathers along the sides. Ugh!
U of I Marching Band Performs “Over There”
The University of Illinois Marching Band performed this week in Ireland. We watched the 400 lads ‘n lasses perform as we watched them on our computer. We have a grandson, Caden Nommensen, freshman and trombone player, looked and sounded great as they all marched through the Irish narrow streets. As of now Caden would someday like to be a band director. Like father, like son?
Are we Targeted?
Have you ever wondered with all the technology, good and bad, that some evil country has a missile program that could reach here in the Midwest? I would think the Rock Island Arsenal would be on some idiot’s bucket list. Hopefully I am wrong.
