Lady Leafs Sending Six To State, Finish 2nd Overall By Half Point

The GHS Lady Leafs Track & Field team will once again be well represented at the IHSA 2A State Finals after an overall second place finish at the Princeton Sectional during a rainy Thursday afternoon at PHS. Senior Olivia Marshall took first in both shot put (13.78m) and discus (42.77m) to earn a trip to state for the fourth consecutive year. Two pole vaulters heading to state are senior Johnna Shoemaker (3.12m) who will be making her third trip to the finals along with sophomore Jocelyn Cechowicz (3.12m) in her second trip. Senior Brooke Boone will be making her first trip to the finals as she took first place in the long jump (5.22m) as will sophomore Madison Reade who finished at the top in the high jump (1.49m). Freshman Brooklyn Smith rounds out the GHS qualifiers as she earned first in the 3200m run (11.48.15) by a whopping 0:33 and following up with a close second (5:32.89) in the 1600m run. The IHSA State Championships will take place at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston on May 17-18.
