Sports of 2025
For the most part, our favorite teams did really well and gave us lots of cheers in the “W” column. The biggest surprise was with the Chicago Bears. I figured they would end their season with 6 wins, at best. Who would have thought they would make the playoffs?? That second match with the Packers was “sooooo” nice.
Health
I need not go into detail, but it was kind of an up ‘n down problem concerning our health. If you’re in our age bracket, you know of which I speak. I think our Mazda can automatically drive itself to the doctor’s office! Nothing serious, but when ‘yer in the eighties it’s a flip of the coin.
Fishing
Overall, 2025 was a pretty good year for drowning worms. I caught the biggest bass in all my many years. I let it go. Ha! I also had a big channel cat take my rod ‘n reel into the lake never to be seen again.
Because I have lousy legs, two fellas I fished with, Gary Dahlquist & Tom Simpson, were very helpful getting me set up with my gear.
Kindly Neighbor
Jim Putnam did a ton of favors for Lorna and myself. He helps us with our gardens, some grass cutting, repair work and the list goes on ‘n on. He does not expect it, but we give him a reward for all his good deeds.
He and some other neighbors are quick to clear our driveway of snow. We are lucky to have such nice neighbors.
When I wasn’t Old
Moline’s downtown 5th Ave” was a busy area when I was growing up. From about 12th street east to 18th street it was where you went to purchase just about anything.
As a teen I I worked at Grosman’s on 5th Ave in the late ‘50s. They were always busy. Southpark eventually took a big chunk of the downtown commerce. That 5th Ave area slowly came back life.
Another Year Passed
The days, the months and years slip by so fast. Like all years, 2025 had some good times and sad times, as well. The latest of our friends that have passed away were Arlyn Helke and Jeff DeMay. Both accomplished much goodness during their stay on this earth. Their souls are at peace with God.

Bears Lost/Win
Expected lost to the 49ers. Betcha they beat the Lions on the final regular season game at home. Bears by 10.
