Geneseo School Board Takes Meetings Into District Schools for 2026-27

Geneseo residents will have several opportunities this school year to attend Board of Education meetings inside the schools the board oversees.

Geneseo Community Unit School District #228 will hold five of its regular Board of Education meetings at individual school buildings during the 2026-27 school year, rather than at the district office.

The Board of Education approved the change in August. Superintendent Dr. Laura Delgado said the goal is to give board members an opportunity to spend time inside each building and better understand the environments where students and staff spend their days.

“There is real value in having our Board of Education spend time in each of our schools,” Delgado said. “Seeing our buildings firsthand will give board members a better understanding of the environments in which our students and staff learn and work every day.”

The first traveling meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, at Millikin Elementary School.

Before each of the five meetings, the school's principal will offer a brief tour of the building. The tours will be available not only to board members, but also to community members interested in attending.

“When board members are able to walk through our schools, see classrooms and common spaces, and hear directly from building leaders, it will provide a perspective that you simply can’t get from our traditional meetings at the unit office,” Delgado said.

The district's five school-based meetings are scheduled for:

  • Nov. 12 — Millikin Elementary School

  • Jan. 14 — Southwest Elementary School

  • Feb. 11 — Geneseo High School

  • March 11 — Geneseo Middle School

  • April 8 — Northside Elementary School

Regular Board of Education meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.

Meetings not scheduled at one of the schools will continue to be held at the district office, 648 N. Chicago St.

“We’re proud of all of our buildings and the people who work in them,” Delgado said. “Taking our meetings into the schools is one way we can showcase that work and help our board members stay connected to the entire district.”
