This young fellow is one amazing fisherman, for sure! He even makes his own lures. He fishes a lot on the Green River using fly fishing equipment. I’ve seen photos of some of his smallmouth bass catches and they were beauties. Last week he was the guest speaker at the Geneseo Izaak Walton League. He has various types of tools one has to have when tying flies. Some he uses for topwater and others are the sinking types. No two lures are the same. I was glad that so many members and guests were in attendance to hear about fly fishing. The next Ikes meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Ikes Lodge on Monday, April 10, 2023. Glen Anderson of Geneseo, will be the Ikes’ guest speaker for the April meeting. He will present a program on “Native plants and Gardening.”

Swap Meet
This neat event is something many of us outdoor folks really enjoy. It is sponsored by the Q.C. In-Fisherman Club. If you want to buy, sell or trade, this event you do not want to miss. There will be new and used hunting, fishing, and camping equipment. No guns or ammo are allowed. The show is open to the public and it’s free. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon at the QCCA Expo Center, 2621 4th Avenue, Rock Island, IL, on Saturday, April 1, 2023. There is plenty of parking, too! The Geneseo Izaak Walton League will have some tables at the event with lots of new and used fishing gear for sale.
Turkey Hunting
Keep in mind that if you want to go hunting for wild turkey you need a valid hunting license, a state habitat stamp, and at least one valid turkey permit. Spring Youth turkey hunting will start near the end of this month (3/25-26 and 4/1-2, 2023). For both Spring and Youth Hunting hours are 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1 p.m. Check out the Illinois Digest of Hunting & Trapping Regulations 2022 – 2023. Better face a danger once than be always in fear. Common sense is not so common! To me “Drink responsibly” means don’t spill it! I thought growing old would take longer. My body is a temple, ancient and crumbling. Maybe cursed and haunted, too! “It is a good book which is opened with expectation, and closed with delight.” Amen!!
Fishing Joke
Our granddaughter and I were walking through a cemetery near our house. Lana asked me if two people can be buried in the same grave? I said, “Now why would you ask that?” She answered back, well, the tombstone back there said, “Here lies a fisherman and an honest man.”
Humor
Sue DeBruyckere got immunized against shingles. She told me she still gets advertisements from roofers. Dennis Schoening swims four laps a day. He told me he would do more, but it’s not that easy turning around in the jacuzzi. We all know that money is tight these days. For example, Lorna’s sister, Elneta, works at a bank as a teller. Last week a robber handed Elneta a note that said, “This is a stick-up.” She handed him one back that said, “This is an I.O.U.” Pilot Bob Kuhns, U.S.P.S. Airlines, mentioned the following to all of us passengers, “Please keep your seat belt fastened at all times. We have duct tape, and we’re not afraid to use it.”
