Regular Council Meeting - August 8th, 2023

Removing the Bloat

• Council has approved a phase 1 engineering soil study on a property south of town. This multiphase project would ultimately provide a dam and lake structure that would fix the Geneseo Creek flooding issue.

• The pedestrian bridge and landing project at the intersection of State and Oakwood is progressing. Groundwork will begin this fall and the pedestrian bridge location has moved one hundred yards to the south.

• The city has begun test drilling a fifth on August 8th to relieve stress on the existing water system.

• The well that was down for maintenance came back online on August 8th.

• Chad VanDeWoestyne gave an extensive presentation on the 10 million dollar upgrade to the water treatment plant. The city noted that Mr. VanDeWoestyne’s expertise was able to save the city over $200,000 by way of rehabbing an existing building rather than constructing a new one.

• Council approved a $40,000 Revolving Loan Fund for Tier 1 Gymnastics. After some discussion about collateral and personal guarantees, the RLF is a gap financing measure to supplement what a startup business is getting from a lender at a higher interest rate. The city is excited to have a new business coming to Geneseo.
