Winter Olympics

We really enjoy watching the winter Olympics.  The opening ceremony was awesome.  It’s amazing how they can put it all together. Congratulations to the Olympic committee, the Italians and the thousands of individuals who made it so successful.
It’s been some years now that Lorna and I visited Milan. We took a ride in a tour boat on the canal. It’s a beautiful city. I bought a “Milan” ballcap when there.

Back in 1963 I went on a tour of Germany and Austria.  One of the places I visited was Innsbruck, Austria. They were getting ready to host the 1964 Olympics. Myself and a Navy buddy put on rented ice skates and “attempted” to skate on the indoor ice rink. I kept falling down and I remember a young Austrian lady helped me up more than once. I also remember how clean Innsbruck was. In the morning citizens would go outside and sweep the streets.

Olympic Rings

The five rings represent the inhabited continents of the world.  The Americas are considered as one continent plus Europe, Asia, etc.
For you Audi car owners, the first two rings met car dealers, Horch and Audi. Around 1911 two more companies, Wanderer and DKW were added, thus today’s four rings.

Feed ‘da Birds

Other than the 10 plus inches of snow we had two months ago, our feathered friends still need our help. Also, those weeks of below temps had to be rough on the birds. However, lately Mother Nature switched gears giving us spring like temps.
The other day we had a new species pay us a visit. They were two tufted titmouse birds. Anyway, if you can feed the birds it can help them get through the winter.

A Poem turned Song

We all know we can thank Franis Scott Key for our national anthem. He actually had some help as he wrote it as a poem. He was captured and put on a British naval ship on September 13, 1814 by Baltimore. We were at war with the British and Key, who was locked up, could see out a window, to see the night battle. In the morning he was surprised to see Old Glory still flying and the British had lost the battle.  Although Key wrote the lyrics he did not compose the music. The lyrics were set to an old British tune called, “To Anacreon in Heaven.”

Facebook

Reels have some funny videos, some are not fake, but some sure are. I guess you’d have to say Ai at work, good ‘n bad.  An example, I saw one today that had a bunch of raccoons hanging on a moose’s antlers. Not on Reels, but we laugh at the videos of the lady on Facebook,“That Midwestern Mom.”

Conceal Carry Class

The “JW Shooting Parlor, 207 N. State St., Geneseo, IL, will be giving a two day class for those individuals who need to purchase a new or renewal CC permit.  The class will be held on Feb 21 – 22, 2026 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both days are mandatory. For more information call (309) 944-4174.

Humor

“A history degree is useless. There’s no future in it.”

“I’m not a fan of elevator music.  It’s bad on so many levels.”

From my Belgian cousin’s daughter, Inge Maene, comes this. “A bee does not waste its energy trying to convince a fly that honey is better than s (beep) t.”
