GENESEO — Doubles play carried the Geneseo girls tennis team to a pair of victories Thursday, as the Maple Leafs defeated Ottawa 4-1 and LaSalle-Peru 3-2 to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Geneseo went a perfect 6-0 in doubles across the two duals, with the same three pairings accounting for all six victories.

Against Ottawa, Kendyl Wassenhove and Stella Smith earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 1 doubles. Vi Pettit and Jaylee Brudos dominated at No. 2, winning 6-0, 6-1, while Annabelle Betcher and Annie Reed completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3.

Alyssa Simpson supplied Geneseo's fourth point against Ottawa, defeating Camila Navarro 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Ottawa's Savannah Fredericksen handed Anastasia Pitsoulakis a 7-5, 6-0 loss at No. 1.

The doubles lineup became even more important against LaSalle-Peru.

The Cavaliers captured both singles matches, leaving Geneseo needing all three doubles courts to secure the dual. The Maple Leafs delivered.

Wassenhove and Smith rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Ella Lannen and April Pescetto at No. 1 doubles. Pettit and Brudos defeated Bethany Kasperski and Aly Smith 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2, and Betcher and Reed clinched the doubles sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Jenna Pode and Avery Zbrowski.

LaSalle-Peru's Addison Piecha defeated Pitsoulakis 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Ryan Owczarek edged Simpson 7-6 (5), 6-4 at No. 2.

Across the two duals, Geneseo's three doubles teams combined to win 12 of 12 sets, with Wassenhove/Smith, Pettit/Brudos and Betcher/Reed each finishing the night 2-0.

The two victories pushed Geneseo's season record from 5-1 entering the quad to 7-1.
