This is a big event the Geneseo Ikes hold every year so bring your kid(s) or grandkids because it really is a great bunch of fun for all.

So Honored

One thing the Republicans and Democrats can agree on is having a strong military. They can disagree on the dollars allocated for weapons, personnel and so on, but in this day ‘n age, our military is especially important. Every Memorial Day PBS does a nice tribute to those Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard individuals who paid the ultimate price so we can enjoy the freedoms we have. It was nice to see the Merchant Marines recognized, too. There are also the unknown whose grave stones are so marked. God bless their souls.

Flag Day

Just a reminder to display Old Glory on Wednesday, June 14th. She was battered from throwing the British from our land, torn in pieces from the trenches of WW1 in France and Belgium. She was tattered again years later in Europe, Asia and the list goes on. She was even stepped on and set on fire in her own homeland, but she survived. She will continue to fly as a reminder to us all that our freedom cannot, nor will not, die.

LL&W Barge Party

It’s been a while since we have attended this fun event. Covid 19 is mostly to blame. There will a Fish fry & Shrimp boil, BBQ, Wine Pull, Silent Auction, Barge Tours, Cash Bar and Live Music. They are also having a Barge Party Silent Art Auction. Keep in mind that LL&W does an tremendous job of helping to clean-up our rivers, including the Mighty Miss! Tickets are $75.00 per person. If you want to order tickets on-line, go to: chad@livinglandsandwaters.org We will be working the name tag area at the registration table. C-U there!

Spring Fishing

We finally are done with our gardening with the exception of cutting grass, occasional weeding and some watering depending on how stingy Mother Nature is. I did get a bit of fishing done at the Giant Goose’s main lake and Rock River, but the end results were nothing to brag about. Time to hang out the, “Gone Fishing” sign!

MCB Concert

The second in a great series of outdoor concerts will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, beginning at 7 p.m. Don’t forget to stop at the pavilion for the group or organization who is sponsoring the ice cream social. I noticed at last week’s Maple City Band’s rehearsal on Monday, there were some folks who stopped to enjoy the live music in the park. “Why not?”

Joke

In my younger and carefree days I once took a train from Kewanee to Seattle. By accident, some lady had the same sleeping compartment as mine. Well, we worked it out, she had the top bunk and I, the bottom bunk. In the middle of the night the lady woke me up asking for a blanket? I said to her that I have an idea, let’s just pretend we’re married. “Why not, she giggled?” “Fine, I said, now get your own darn blanket!”

Humor

The other day I asked Linda Vanderleest what her favorite color was. She said it is a light shade of clear. The reason we keep ice cubes in the freezer is to keep the refrigerator cold. Are nitrates cheaper than day rates? The other day an enemy soldier threw a pin at me. I ran like heck. He had the grenade in his mouth! Last winter Rahn Randolph took his new scarf back to the store. He said it was too tight! Some folks ride a tricycle when they go to the Community Center. I can always tell which one belongs to David Moore. It’s the one with a kickstand.
