Our Lady of Guadalupe

We attended this church on Saturday, December 13th . We got there early and sat in our regular front pew. After a few minutes a Mariachi band of six arrived and set-up in front of us. They played and sang in Espanyol at various times during mass. They were really good. I told them so after the service.
Afterwards, there was a Mexican buffet for the parishioners. Now to add to the festivities, there was a group of 25 individuals dressed in the same Mexican Aztec attire. Facing them was an individual playing a drum as the group danced to its beat. It was really unique and beautiful. I sure would love to see their performance again.

My Christmas Poem

Poinsettias are red,
Our tree is green,
Cookies are set out
before its’ to bed;
I hope Santa will stop here,
for food and a glass of beer;
Rudolf and his nose of red,
He’ll be here is what he said;
So less bad weather would be nice,
But with Mother Nature, its
A roll of the dice;
Just be careful don’t slip on the ice!

When I wasn’t Old

Cars had ashtrays and cigarette lighters. Vent side windows. To switch light beams it was located on the floor board. Side windows had crank handles in the door. How ‘bout 8 Track players before cassettes and CDs? Metal radio car antennas moved up & down by hand or electric.Whitewall tires. Early rust was expected on cars. Studded snow tires. Most all cars were rear wheel drive. Vinal tops. Hood ornaments. Chrome bumpers. Drag racing on the one-ways. Shooting range in the basement of Moline’s Logan School. Bridge over Moline-Rock Island border at 16th Ave in Moline and 14th Ave in Rock Island.
This was before my time, but I have an old copy of when the Rock Island Independents football team played the Chicago Bears at Browning Field in Moline on Sept 22, 1936.
George Halas was the Bear’s coach. Joe Kurth was the coach of the RI Independents. One of the sponsors of the game was the John Deere Harvester Works Band.
I do remember the Le Claire Hotel. It had 220 Rooms and 220 baths. It also had 70 apartments. The hotel was listed as “Fireproof.”

Humor

What pronouns does chocolate use? Ans: Her-shey.
Do they allow loud laughing in Hawaii? Or just “A lo Ha?”

Quote of the Week
